These crock pot barbecue meatballs come together with almost no effort but bring big, crowd-pleasing flavor without using hard to find ingredients. Toss your favorite frozen meatballs or a batch of our Everything Meatballs in Somethin’ Somethin’ Sauce, set the slow cooker, and you’ve got an easy appetizer or weeknight dinner ready to go.
Ingredients
-
2 pounds frozen homestyle meatballs OR 1 full batch of B.T. Leigh’s Everything Meatballs
-
1 cup Somethin’ Somethin’ Sauce - Sweet & Tangy BBQ Sauce
-
½ cup cherry preserves or jam
-
¼ cup tamari soy sauce
-
1 ounce (pony) of your favorite Kentucky Bourbon (optional)
-
½ teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional)
-
something green for garnish like green onions or parsley
Directions
In a medium bowl, combine Somethin’ Somethin’ Sauce, cherry preserves, tamari soy sauce and bourbon together and whisk until smooth.
If the mixture seems like its very thick, add a tablespoon or two of water to thin.
Add the meatballs to the crock pot in an even layer.
pour the sauce mixture evenly over the meatballs, gently stirring to combine.
Cover the meatballs and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours, stirring once or twice to keep everything coated.
These meatballs can be cooked on high for 1.5 to 2 hours, but low and slow yields a better result.Add some green onions (my favorite) or parsley to garnish and break out the toothpicks to serve!
Recipe Note
If using Everything Meatballs - cook on low for 1.5-2 hours since the meatballs are already cooked.
If you want a thicker glaze, forego the water to thin.
I prefer cherry preserves, but this recipe works great with peach, blackberry or even orange marmalade.
I also like a hotter bourbon for this recipe, such as Dueling Grounds Distillery Linkumpinch Bottled In Bond Bourbon or Balance Distilling Mammoth Cave Kentucky Straight Bourbon. Support local yall.
I often stir in another pony of bourbon right at the end to bump that flavor.
