Coffee

Let's talk about...

Coffee!

Coffee, a beloved beverage cherished by millions worldwide, holds a special place in our daily routines and cultural rituals. From its rich history to its diverse flavor profiles and intriguing anecdotes, coffee is more than just a drink; it's a captivating journey of exploration and enjoyment. Join us as we delve into the multifaceted world of coffee, uncovering its origins, savoring its unique flavors, and uncovering some fascinating facts along the way.

Background

The story of coffee begins centuries ago in the highlands of Ethiopia, where legend has it that a goat herder named Kaldi discovered the energizing effects of coffee beans after noticing his goats became more spirited upon consuming them. From these humble beginnings, coffee cultivation spread across the Arabian Peninsula and eventually to the rest of the world, becoming a staple beverage in countless cultures.

Today, coffee is one of the most widely consumed beverages globally, with a thriving industry that encompasses everything from small-scale artisanal roasters to multinational coffee chains. Its popularity can be attributed not only to its stimulating properties but also to the myriad of flavors and aromas it offers, each influenced by factors such as growing region, altitude, processing method, and roast level.

Flavor Profile

One of the most intriguing aspects of coffee is its diverse range of flavor profiles, which can vary significantly depending on the beans' origin and how they are processed and roasted. Coffee aficionados often speak of tasting notes that encompass a spectrum of flavors, from fruity and floral to nutty and chocolatey.

The flavor notes of coffee lend the perfect amount of rich bitterness to our Somethin' Somethin' Sauce and plays a predominate flavor in our seasonal blend, Somethin' For Winter.

Fun Facts

  • Did you know that coffee is actually a fruit? The coffee "bean" is the seed of the coffee cherry, which grows on trees in tropical regions around the world.
  • The term "Americano" originated during World War II when American soldiers stationed in Europe would dilute espresso with hot water to mimic the milder drip coffee they were accustomed to back home.
  • Finland holds the title for the highest per capita coffee consumption in the world, with the average Finn consuming over 12 kilograms of coffee per year.
  • The most expensive coffee in the world is made from beans that have been eaten and excreted by civet cats. Known as civet coffee or kopi luwak, it fetches premium prices for its unique flavor profile.
